A  very  sad  incident  has  occurred  in  Pune  division  of  Central  Railway.   Pune  division  has    a Yard  called  Dehuroad  Military  siding.  This  is  a  serving yard  for   around  100  military depots.  Also,  empty  military  wagons  are  stabled  in  this  yard  from where  POH  movement  monitored.  Adjacent  to  this  yard, DRDO  is  situated  which  is a very  prestigious  establishment  of  Military.  Railway  personal  are  not  aware  about  the  activities  happening  in  DRDO.  There  are frequent  Military  movements  from  this  yard.

Railway  staff  are  posted  for  day  shift  only  in  this  yard  and  placement  and  release  for/from   depots  are  done  during  this  period  only.  One  SM  and two  P/Man  are  posted  in  this  yard  in  general  shift   with  Sunday  Off.  Mr.  A.M.  Shaikh  SM-I  was  posted  in  this  yard.  Integrity  of  Mr.  A.M.  Shaikh  is beyond  doubt  and  there  are  no  Chargesheets  or  Punishments  against  him  throughout  his  service.  He  was  having  only  02  years  of  service  remaining  and  he had  opted  for  Voluntary  retirement  due  to  his  health  problems.  Voluntary  retirement  was  sanctioned  w.e.f  01.08.2010.

On  a  particular  day,  some  PIO (Pakistan  Intelligence Operative) agent  called  him  on  P&T  phone  and  identified  himself  as  Major  Mishra.  Thereafter,  he enquired  about  any  Military  movement  during  recent  days  and  planned  movements  for the  month.  Mr.  Shaikh  stated  that  there  were  no  movements  and further  stated  that  07  BOM  wagon  were  sent for  POH  to  Jhansi and   04 BOM  wagons  to  Bhopal  for  POH.  These  conversation  were   intercepted  by Military  Intelligence  and  was  mis-interpreted  as  Bomb  wagons.

As  a  result,  departmental  enquiry was  held  by  RPF.  In  none of  the  enquiry  reports  there  is  anything  adverse   against  Mr.  Shaikh except that  BOM wagons were sent for POH.  But  there  was huge  pressure  from  Railway  Board  as  well  as  Headquarter to initiate action against him.  As  a  result  on  29/07/2010, his  Voluntary  Retirement  was  rejected,  he  was  transferred  from  existing  station  and  SF-5  issued.  Now  his  Voluntary  Retirement  will  be  sanctioned  only  after DAR  proceedings  are  completed  and  he  is  relieved  of  all  charges leveled  against  him.

I  am  forced  to  write  all  these  lines  to make   all  the  Station  Masters,  dealing  with  Military  operations,  to  be  more  cautious  in  future  so Station Master is  forced  to  face  such  a  consequences.

It  is  advised  that  hereafter  no  Station Master  reveals information on defense  movement to  any  army  personnel,  what-ever  the  rank may be,   on  telephone. Only  when  any  army  official  reports  to  Station Master  in  person  and  proves  his  identity,  any  information  shall  be  relayed.

M. Ravindran, DSF/ Pune division.
