Anna Hazare
Anna Hazare has been sitting on fast since 05-04-2011 (Tuesday) morning, demanding inclusion of civil society in formulation of the anti-graft Lokpal Bill. Kiran Bedi, the first woman IPS officer and Right to Information activist (RTI) Arind Kejriwal , along with several others, are also accompanying him.
They are pressing for Jan Lok Pal Bill for setting up of ombudsmen – lokayuktas for states and Lokpal at centre. The main demand is that the ombudsmen should be free from government’s call to weed out corruption. They want representation from civil society in drafting the Lokpal bill, 50 percent from civil society and 50 percent from government. If the government frames the bill without people’s participation, it will not be democratic, it will be autocratic.
They are also demanding a minimum jail term of five years to life imprisonment for those found guilty in time bound investigations (one year). The government, however, has recommended six months to seven years imprisonment.
The entire country is today waiting for effective action against the cancer of corruption. The wish of the people should be respected.
We the STATION MASTERS Fraternity support the eradication of the disease CORRUPTION in all levels, in all segments and in all modes.
Kisan Bapat Baburao Hazare, popularly known as ANNA HAZARE (born 15 January 1940) the 71 Years old is one of India's well-acclaimed social activists. A former soldier in the Indian army, Anna is well known and respected for upgrading the ecology and economy of the village of Ralegan Siddhi which is located in the drought prone Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra state. The erstwhile barren village has metamorphosed into a unique model of rural development due to its effective water conservation methods, which made the villagers self-sufficient. Earlier, the same village witnessed alcoholism, utter poverty and migration to urban slums. Inspired by Hazare’s unique approach of salvaging a hopeless village, the state government has implemented the `Model Village’ scheme as part of its official strategy. Hazare is now synonymous with rural development in India.
