AISMA/BANGALORE/SWR BOWS IN REVERENCE TO Dr. M.K.SRINIVAS, Sr.DMO/HUP WHO UNHESITATINGLY DECLARES ---SMs’ JOB IS THE TOUGHEST JOB IN INDIAN RAILWAYS-- |
IT’S NOT A HYPE!
Dear Station Masters,
What you find in the box is a sincere decoration adorned on you by revered Sr.DMO/HUP/SWR Shri.M.K.Srinivas in the SUPERANNUATION FUNCTION at HUP on 29.06.2011 on the occasion of the retirement of Shri.Sreeramareddy, SMR/HUP of Bangalore Division of SWR. The Sr.DMO while chairing the fare well function on coming to know that Shri.Sreeramareddy had completed 35 yeas of service in Railways, declared that an employee working in Indian Railways can complete his entire length of service in any post for any number of years till he attains 60 years and still retire peacefully BUT NOT AS A STATION MASTER SINCE THE JOB IS THE MOST STRENUOUS, TOUGHEST AND CHALLENGING ONE IN INDIAN RAILWAYS.
No wonder, we reiterate,
Dear Sir,
THE ENTIRE STATION MASTERS COMMUNITY OF INDIAN RAILWAYS BOW IN REVERENCE FOR YOUR FRANK AND UNINHIBITED EXPRESSION OF A TRUTH.
At this juncture it is only warranted on our part to recall the communiqué of Shri.Kamalesh Gupta dated 21.01.2009.
No.2004/Safety-1/28/1 New Delhi, Dated 21.01.2009.
To:
Chief Operations Managers,
All Indian Railways,
Sub: Improvement in working /service conditions for ASM category.
Due to difficult working conditions of staff in ASM category there is reluctance to take up this job. The ASMs have to perform duties at stations located in far flung rural areas where the education of the children and / or employment of their spouse may not be adequately possible. Unlike the running category staff they do not get any special allowances. There is consequently reluctance of compassionate category appointees to join as an ASM. In view of the facts that the Pay commission that has not recommended any special allowance to the ASM it may not be possible to consider this.
Feed back is invited from Zonal Railways to bring out the difficulties faced by ASMs and suggest remedial measures, if any. Your reply may kindly be furnished by 16.02.2009.
Similarly it is equally required to reproduce in verbatim the communique of Shri.J.L.Arora, Director Safety, dated 16.04.2009.
No.2004/Safety-I/28/I Pt New Delhi, Dated 16.04.2009.
To:
The Chief Operations Managers,
All Indian Railways.
Sub: Improvements in working /service conditions for ASM category.
Ref: This office letter of even No. dated 21.01.2009& 18.02.2009.
Vide letters under reference, Board had invited feedback from COMs of the Zonal Railways to bring out the difficulties faced by ASMs and suggest remedial measures, if any. Large number of suggestions has been received from the Zonal Railways. These suggestions are varying from increase in salary, more allowances to more facilities at work place and for family. These are compiled and attached as Annexure-I
While suggestions related to increased salary, higher grade pay, allowance etc may be looked into by next Pay commission, most of other suggestions to provide tangible benefits to ASM category by providing them less stressful environment at work place and better facilities for the family members can be examined and implemented by the Zonal; Railways.
Zonal Railways may carry out work study for ASM posts & examine posting of additional ASM instead of a Booking Clerk wherever necessary, centralized colony for housing families, Card Pass and Education Allowance, Transport allowances and required as a policy matter on any issue, the proposal may be referred to Board’s approval is required as a policy matter on any issue, the proposal may be referred to Board. Few suggestions like reducing number of registers to fill up, etc will need a uniform policy over zones. Zonal Railways may review and send recommendations for finalizing policy at Board’s level.”
What you read above is not the version or opinion of AISMA. Even according to the top authorities of Indian Railways as you saw above the following facts/factors emerge crystal clear.
1. Due to difficult working conditions of staff in ASM category there is reluctance to take up this job. The ASMs have to perform duties at stations located in far flung rural areas where the education of the children and / or employment of their spouse may not be adequately possible.
2. Unlike the running category staff they do not get any special allowances.
3. In view of the facts that the Pay commission has not recommended any special allowance to the ASM it may not be possible to consider this.
4. Large number of suggestions has been received from the Zonal Railways. These suggestions are varying from increase in salary, more allowances and more facilities at work place and for family.
5. Large number of suggestions have been received from the COMS of various Zones of IR to increased salary, higher grade pay, allowance etc to Station Masters..
6. But it (meaning increased salary and higher grade pay and allowances) can be looked into by the next pay commission.
