Be an Effective LEADER
Good leaders are made; not born. Leadership is influence - nothing more, nothing less. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader. Good leaders develop through a never ending process of self-study, education, training, and experience. Leaders come in all makes and models! They have some favorite characteristics that set apart the High Performance Breakthrough Leader.
When something goes wrong great leaders step up and acknowledge their part in it and don't fall into the trap of trying to shift blame elsewhere, i.e., they ACCEPT their Accountability. They make their People grow; they build teams of superstars by being exceptional delegators who delegate challenging work that builds people and finally get results. They make sure that their people are regularly being challenged to grow and step ever more into their potential. They Have an Open Office with an open mind. An able and Good Leader is one who makes it easy for their people to interact with them in terms of communication and companionship. The very best man perhaps help people to see that what they do makes a difference in terms of Engagements and Energy manifestation. One should Act from a Place of Alignment. For me, this is ultimately what makes a good leader. A leader who takes the time to align with their source energy (whether you call it God, Universe or some other name) and is focused upon only taking action from a space of love and feeling good and also listen to his inner voice, will always be guided to take the right action.
So also the time management gets us heading in the right direction. Allocate the amount of time that needs to complete each of the objectives and programmes. Decide which of the objectives/programme could be delegated to someone else. Yes! We will have to fine-tune our effective delegation skills. The key is not to over-schedule yourself. If the time is not realistic look for items you can cut from the schedule and carry over. We need to ensure, we have breathing time. Make sure we leave free time each day for 'crisis' - the aim is to get this smaller and smaller.
The overwhelming factor that makes us want to follow certain leaders is their ability to communicate effectively - very effectively. Some people seem to be born with a natural energy and confidence. No harm, let’s work at it. Once you have learned and started practicing your leadership communication skills you will realize how much more efficiently you communicate with others. Good leaders understand the importance of open channels of communication, going in both directions between him and his followers. We must be able to clearly express what is needed within an organization, and be able to listen actively when others are conveying information back to us. Without these skills, there will be a disconnection between the leaders and the rank and file that will detract from the effectiveness. In this context, it is imperative that We need to constantly communicate with the people down the line and through various means. This is because the relationship with the followers is the foundation for the leadership.
You must have an honest understanding of who we are, what we know, and what we can do. Also, note that it is the followers, not the leader or someone else who determine our success. If they do not trust or lack confidence in their leader, then they will be uninspired. To be successful we have to convince the followers.
As we had discussed in the Skills Analysis please do not expect to excel in all these leadership qualities. Firstly it's impossible; secondly you'll place too much stress on yourself and thirdly remember that leaders with a wide variety of skills and characteristics have shown over the years only. It all depends upon the context and situation as to which of these skills are needed at a given point of time. Instead of depending on a dictionary definition of leadership, let us work out a definition based on our experiences.
The need of the hour for this great organization is Leadership, in various levels. Certainly there is not going to be a drain, but the concern is ladder of leadership from Station to Branches and Division to Zone and Centre and to create a sense of confidence and comfort for the men on top of the ladder. This is not the need of the Organization of AISMA alone, as a Good Human, for the Society too.
My heart goes with this one - if you look at history, most of the leaders emerged rather than being crowned or elected. They rose to power and often they did not even have a title. The best example of this can be Mahatma Gandhi. The term Mahatma was given by the people. He did not hold a high position in any Party, but, all looked up to him for guidance and leadership. Think of the leaders like Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela, Mother Theresa,... all very different leaders ... all very successful and all of whom may very well have failed as leaders if each of them had been put in the other’s situation.
The other man in our folk is our Great Com. P.Sivanpillai, a man from a small hamlet in an island, made the main land to remember, without much of the present day Communication systems and modern gadgets etc, left his memory in the minds of the STATION MASTERS. His credentials on the Hard work; Open office; Accountability; challenging work; communication and companionship; listening to his inner voice, etc., were the inimitable qualities that made HIM to be remembered even after his demise. Everyone is remembered while living; but only a few are remembered after leaving. That is the Achievement. Leadership is one of the means for this Achievement.
Defining a set of good leadership skills is easy. Defining when to make best use of the skills, to what degree and how ... well that takes intuition and experience. Let’s also initiate in harvesting Goods leaders by sapling in the Leadership Training Camps. At the Leading Edge, One of the favorite sayings is "if you aren't growing - then neither are your people". Yes! Wow to develop and make them develop. Live, Live to be remembered………also as a Good Human and as a Good Leader.
A good leader is like a fine Cocktail - a good mixture of diverse qualities.
Yes!, Dear Comrades Be an effective Leader to execute the 8/9 Direct Action.
Hail Thee! Hail AISMA!!
