Revolutionary  Greetings on MAY DAY. Inqulab Zindabhad. Working class unity Zindabhad.

Every year May 1 is observed as May Day, synonymous with International Workers' Day. International Workers' Day (a name used interchangeably with May day) is a celebration of the social and economic achievements of the international labor movement.

International Workers' Day is the commemoration of the Haymarket Massacre in Chicago in 1886, when Chicago police fired on workers during a general strike for the eight hour day, killing several demonstrators and resulting in the deaths of several police officers.

In 1884, the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions passed a resolution stating that eight hours would constitute a legal day's work from and after May 1, 1886. The resolution called for a general strike to achieve the goal, since legislative methods had already failed. With workers being forced to work ten, twelve, and fourteen hours a day, rank-and-file support for the eight-hour movement grew rapidly, despite the indifference and hostility of many union leaders.

The celebration of labour Day has  its origins in the Eight –hour day movement, which advocated eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation and eight hours for rest.

The first May Day celebration in India was organised in Madras by the Labour Kisan Party of Hindustan on May 1, 1923. This was also the first time the red flag was used in India. The party leader Singaravelu Chettiar made arrangements to celebrate May Day. in two places in 1923. One meeting was held at the beach opposite to the Madras High Court; the other meeting was held at the Triplicane beach.

Workers of the world, awaken!
Rise in all your splendid might
Take the wealth that you are making,
It belongs to you by right.
No one will for bread be crying
We'll have freedom, love and health,
When the grand red flag is flying
In the Workers' Common wealth.

Workers of the world Unite;  specially the Indian Railway Employees Unite. It is not just our Dream; our Mission. Red Salute......

John Vincent - Secretary General
