Dear Comrades !

Onam is the biggest festival in the Indian state of Kerala. Onam Festival falls during the Malayali month of Chingam (Aug - Sep) and marks the homecoming of legendary King Mahabali. Carnival of Onam lasts for ten days and brings out the best of Kerala culture and tradition. Intricately decorated Pookalam, ambrosial Onasadya, breathtaking Snake Boat Race and exotic Kaikottikali dance are some of the most remarkable features of Onam - the harvest festival in Kerala. It was officially declared State Festival in 1961. Onam is now celebrated by everyone in the region irrespective of caste or religion.

 

A spirit of brotherhood and Goodwill is apparent in the various cultural activities conducted during the festival. The events mostly conducted in groups help people to come closer to each other and generate overall harmony in the community.

All such activities make the people think in terms of a group and team rather than in individual terms.This goes a long way in generating the spirit of goodwill amongst the people.
