PALAKKAD: The All-India Station Masters' Association of the Palakkad Division has demanded the Railway Management to appoint sufficient trained staff before computerising the issuance of tickets at all railway stations.
The Association Divisional Secretary said in a statement that in small railway stations, the task of issuance of tickets was being given to the Station Master concerned.
But since the Station Master has to monitor the various level-crossings and gates, the diversion of the duties would hamper the safety of passengers.
The passengers who wish to travel by train would not get the tickets on time owing to the shortage of staff.
The Association pointed out that the directive of the Railway Board in 2002 to post Additional Station Masters went futile.
